Job Preparation is a practical English course designed to prepare students for a position in the Canadian job market. For four weeks they will learn about the local job market, develop strategies to be successful in interviews, and learn to write effective cover letters and resumes. These essential aspects of job seeking will be the foundation of the course. Upon graduation students should have a firm understanding of the Vancouver job market including how and where to look for jobs. Preparing professional cover letters and resumes will give students an enormous advantage in the competitive environment that most job seekers must face

 

This course not only helps students to find jobs, but also prepares them to work. Key skills and workplace language are developed. The course focuses on transferring practical expressions that can used regularly at work. Therefore key areas include Customer Service English and Telephone Language. Each week focuses on a different set of vocabulary and expressions needed in the most common areas of work for ESL students. In particular, English for the hospitality and restaurant trades are emphasized. Numerous role plays are utilized to give students the experience and confidence to be an asset in their workplace.

 

By the end of this course, students will be equipped with the skills to find a job in Canada and to be successful in that job.
