Accuracy and immediate correction are key components of this class.

This class will challenge students with authentic listening materials from a variety of sources. Students in this class will be exposed to ‘real world’ listening materials, from TV shows to political speeches. Various exercises will help students listen for main ideas and specific details. It is a challenging, yet rewarding class that allows students to take their listening skills to the next level.

Speaking   Level 5 and 6

The aim of this course is to improve students’ spoken fluency, accuracy and confidence through a consideration of various issues. The course targets international students who have already established knowledge of spoken English; and therefore is more suitable for the upper intermediate to advanced levels. Presentations at this level become much more demanding and are evaluated more rigorously.

Writing   Level 5 and 6

Beginning with simple sentence structure, students will eventually be expected to both understand and construct complete essays.

Grammar Clinic   Level 1-6

Prior to joining Grammar clinic, a level test will be used to assess each student’s grammar level. Students will then take the steps needed to increase their knowledge and gain confidence in their skills. There are plenty of chances to use this new grammar with a variety of activities designed to engage participants in the learning process.

Pronunciation Clinic   Level 1-6

Different language speakers have different problems when it comes to pronunciation. We focus on the specific problems of each group in order to make you more easily understood by native speakers. This course focuses on problem sounds that are easily confused. Clear instruction and consistent practice are vital for significant improvement. For those students who have already covered the basics of pronunciation we also offer an intonation clinic for higher level students.

Academic Speaking   Levels 4-6

This clinic allows students to see the progress of their speaking skills in a measurable way. This is done through the use of the speaking components of various English proficiency tests. The primary test used is the IELTS test, which gives students the opportunity to develop their skills within a structured framework.

Listening Clinic   Levels 1-6

Students use a variety of both ESL and real world material to develop their listening skills. This balance is extremely important as we are not trying to prepare students only for academic success but also to function effectively in a variety of situations in their lives. Students are exposed to ‘natural’ English and learn colloquial language through a range of activities and materials.

Conversation Club   Levels 2-6

Conversation Club is a great way to improve speaking skills and receive feedback in problem speaking areas. Everyday a new topic is discussed and many new idioms and common expressions connected to the topic are taught. In this unique class, the maximum number of students is five. Having a smaller group means students have many opportunities to talk. Mistakes are written down by the teacher, which are then photocopied and given to students at the end of class.

Essential Speaking   Levels 1-2

This class is designed for lower level students who need to acquire speaking skills for their daily life in Canada. Students work from dialogues for everyday situations, such as, going to the bank, post office, restaurants or talking to your homestay family. Dialogues are presented, practiced and personalized. This class is enormously helpful for students who have just arrived in Canada.
